The Iroquois League consisted of people from five nations, namely, Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca. It was later called the Iroquois Confederacy. The Tuscarora people from the southeast were accepted as the sixth member of the league, and the league consisted of six nations after that.

It was to settle domestic and other affairs related to the women. This council was formed to protect their rights.
